Safer School Streets Digital Permits

From 3rd November 2025 Herefordshire Council will introduce a new scheme that changes the way traffic operates in certain school areas.

The Safer School Streets initiative will mean vehicle access is prohibited to:

  • Broadlands Primary School / Aylestone School – Broadlands Lane, Watermeadow Close

  • Lord Scudamore Academy – Friars Street, Old Mill Close, Watkins Court, Cross Street, Friars Court

  • Lugwardine Primary Academy – Barnaby Avenue, Croft Close

  • Riverside Primary School – Belmont Avenue and Hunderton Avenue, Belmont Court, Springfield Avenue

  • Trinity Primary School – Barricombe Drive

between 8.10am-9.10am and 2.50pm-3.50pm, Monday to Friday, during term time.

Eligible parties can request a virtual permit which will exclude registered vehicles from the Safer School Street restrictions. These permits are free of charge

Eligible parties include:

  • Valid access to business and residential properties in the following street

  • Residents who live on the following streets

  • Businesses (and their visitors/customers) on the following streets

  • Carers and healthcare workers serving properties in the following streets

For Broadlands Primary School / Aylestone School – Broadlands Lane and Watermeadow Close

For Lord Scudamore Academy – Friars Street, Old Mill Close, Watkins Court, Cross Street, Friars Court

For Lugwardine Primary Academy – Barnaby Avenue, Croft Close

For Riverside Primary School – Belmont Avenue and Hunderton Avenue, Belmont Court, Springfield Avenue

For Trinity Primary School – Barricombe Drive

Additionally, the following parties can apply for a digital permit

  • School staff

  • Blue Badge holders

Access for Emergency Services, Public Transport, and other selected groups will be maintained at all times.
