Purchasing Permits

Please note: If you do not hold an active Resident Permit, you must process a Visitor Voucher Application. To do this, select Buy Digital Permits and select the Visitor Vouchers Application. Once processed and approved by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, you will be able to purchase the required visitor permits.

Permit reviews are undertaken by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. Should a permit be rejected, you will need to reapply in the same manner as you had done so.

Should you wish to discuss the reasons for rejection in depth, please contact Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council directly.

These can be purchased by selecting Buy Digital Permits and selecting the relevant option. Daily Visitor Permits can be purchased in bundles of 25.

Visitor permits reallocate based on the date and amount purchased in the previous year, so for example, if you were to purchase 25 permits today, they would not be available again until this date the following year. You can view your purchase dates via the Payment History section of your account.

Activating Permits

Visitor Permits can be activated up to 14 days in advance via the App, Website and Phone options, Text activations are instant. Please see below methods of activation.

App

Log in to your account in the same manner as you would the website. Click the menu button (three stacked horizontal lines) to reveal the permits option, select this and then select activate visitor permits.

You will need to enter your visitor’s vehicle registration number and select the type of visitors permit to use (if you have various types), the date/time to activate the permit, and the duration required.

Website

Login to your MiPermit portal and click Activate Visitor Permit. Alternatively, you can select Manage Digital Permits and select Visitor Permits.

Phone

You will need to have the mobile number that you are using linked to your account. Text VISITOR followed by the registration of the vehicle and the duration required to 61600.

SMS costs to 61600 may vary depending on your network provider. Please contact your provider for more information.

A visitor permit will only be active once you have received a text message back confirming that it is active.

Cancelling Permits

Should you need to cancel your permit you can do so at any point up to 5 minutes after the start of the parking period by selecting Manage Digital Permits and clicking on the current permit displayed. You will then be able to select the Cancel Permit option from the permit details displayed.
