What is an "Online Merchant Account"?
For payments to be made on the internet, nearly all companies and organisations that you make a payment to will have a merchant account. This account is the destination account that a payment from you is sent to. At MiPermit, we have various merchant accounts for individual customers as well as an umbrella account that some operators prefer for us to use on their behalf.
What is being "Authorised"?
When you add your payment details, we securely test that the details are correct (for example that the card number is correct and matches the expiry date). This gives the merchant account authorisation to take payment for using MiPermit services without needing to re-enter your card details every time you use the service. Please note though, we do not store your card details. We perform what is called a 'repeat transaction' using a unique identifier given to use by the payment portal.
Which merchant should I choose?
You can either choose to authorise against all merchants (the first option), or select the merchant that you know you will be using.
If you choose a single merchant this will mean that if in the future you go to another operators car park that use MiPermit's cashless services you will be required to enter your payment details again. By selecting to authorise against all merchants you will avoid this.
Deciding on which merchant to use comes down to knowing which area or operator controls the car parks you intend to park in. A list of locations and operators can be found on www.mipermit.com
